Georgia Cuts Diplomatic Ties with Russia

A decision has been made to cut diplomatic relations with Russia, Grigol Vashadze, the Georgian deputy foreign minister, said on August 29. “Neither Georgia in Russia and nor Russia in Georgia will have a diplomatic representation; only the consulates will remain,” he told journalists. “Georgia will have only a consul, vice consular and a technical staff [in Moscow].” A third country will be representing Georgia’s interests in Russia after this move, he said. “Consultations are currently underway with several countries on the matter,” Vashadze added.
